Much like an anthropologist, Sarah Stedeford seeks to explore human connections through shared experience, hobbies, sports, culture, and gender. Before beginning any project, Sarah immerses herself within worlds different than her own in-order-to later combine traditional styling in a way that accentuates specific traits particular to each community. The images challenge our perceptions of the documented as true or staged, and question how we judge and create personas for people.
From the age of fifteen, Sarah has been in love with analogue photography; interested in experimenting with old techniques and open to whatever results that may bring. She aspires to bring the simplicity of black and white to the coloured world to create photographs that feel completely unified as a single image. She always has an idea of what the final result is going to look like, but this tends to shift and become clearer as she is influenced by the process, whether that be new developing techniques or inspiring characters.
